Hi,

I have a HP Pavilion 1520e and recently upgraded to Windows 8. The PC has Network Adapter called HP 802.11b/g Wireless Network Adapter manufactured by Qualcomm Atheros Communications Inc. It is located in the PCI Bus 1, device 10 function 0.

I have downloaded the Windows 8 HP Software Update SP60642 which has the Qualcomm Atheros QCA9000 Driver update and installation. The new driver version is 10.0.0.222 dated 12/16/2012. The installation of this package is supposed to replace and/or install the athr.sys, the athw8.sys and the vwifibus.sys. After installation of the driver I get the message that the device cannot start (Code 10) and it isn't using any resources because it has a problem. The requested operation for updating the driver has failed. The event viewer gives me the following for three events:

(1) Driver Management has concluded the process to add Service athr for Device Instance ID PCIVEN_168C&DEV_001B&SUBSYS_500111AD&REV_014&8A8971F&0&5020 with the following status: 0.

(2) Driver Management has concluded the process to add Service vwifibus for Device Instance ID PCIVEN_168C&DEV_001B&SUBSYS_500111AD&REV_014&8A8971F&0&5020 with the following status: 0.

(3) Driver Management concluded the process to install driver athw8.inf_x86_301136f3bcfda3f1athw8.inf for Device Instance ID PCIVEN_168C&DEV_001B&SUBSYS_500111AD&REV_014&8A8971F&0&5020 with the following status: 0x0.

This HP Software update is for Windows 8, so I don't think I have to run it in compatibility mode. I have uninstalled the driver, and let the device manager look for new hardware, but with the same result. A reboot after installation doesn't help either.

Can you help me with this?

Thanks

NB.
