NASA has a NASA 3D Resources page where you can download hundreds of free 3D models, textures, and space related images. If you’re making a space themed game, you can find some really cool authentic looking 3D game art here. This is an extended example / tutorial to show how to import 3D models into Game Maker (using Mosaic Light by Zoltan Percsich), and how to set up UV mapping. The arrow keys move the camera around the scene. Press the space bar to load models. Create characters and environments in 3D Using your concept art, create 3D models with game development software like Maya LT. Then, paint your models to give them a distinct look.

I came across NIUM recently which is 2D but uses this method in order to create the illusion of 3D. You can also see the method in Step, and Lisa.
NIUM was developed by moppin (edit: shamefully I forgot to mention the art is by nemk), you can only buy it as part of a bundle on itch.io (afaik).
I'm not sure if anyone would be interested but figured I'd share.
Edit: Here's a video by moppin explaining the effect, it's a bit meandering at first but you might find it interested (thanks to /u/brandonnn )
Edit 2: so /u/INTERNET_RETARDATION made a tool that creates the sprite sheets needed for the 'ISOMETRIC VOXEL SYSTEM COMPOSED OF STACKED 2D SPRITES' effect, reddit thread is here.
