The novel reads like the typical young adult fictitious tale, following Blaire Wynn as she finds herself tangled within a deadly trap of hearts; initially struggling to find herself within the web of convoluted family entanglements, the chaos of two dysfunctional lines coming together, it is Rush Finlay, her step brother that gets her blood flowing.
Confined to her mother’s bedside for three years, caring for a life in vain, Blaire is largely the innocent girl of the story, pure as they come, learning of the harshness of the world and trying to reconcile her emotions for Rush with his lust for her, the two minds clashing in one epic romance.
Of course there have been criticisms against the generic plot lines playing out within this best seller; only, while Abbi creates what most would appreciate as the most typical setting, the story reads as something altogether different, considerably, drawing readers away from the generic storyline with intriguing character development, and tapping into a wide range of emotions in exploring the hungry minds of two youths fighting to find each other.
Rush too far approaches the Fallen Too Far story from Rush’s point of view; definitely a bold move, one that could have backfired, but only serves to pour more fire beneath Abbi’s wings. Terms like generic’ are quickly tossed out the window with this one, the novel taking this story and intimately twisting the very stones of its foundation, revealing layers to the plot that were always hidden yet unbelievably important to the story that unfolded in the first book.
Many a critic, though initially skeptical, have come to accept Abbi’s unique style of storytelling; it isn’t about the uniqueness of the idea. Abbi understands that; that innocent little girls falling for experienced bad boys has already become an overdone cliché.
